The Gerber Armbar comes in several version - I bought the one with the screwdriver in the slim version. I was going to use this as a pocket screwdriver - that's the main reason to buy this. The screwdriver is the main tool. If you need a knife, there are plenty of other, better options. Having a sturdy little screwdriver in your pocket could really be helpful.
The Problem
If you look at the way the screwdriver connects to the rest of the tool - it's just a flat piece of metal that opens just like a knife blade. It kind of twists around and attaches the hex adapter for the screwdriver. But that flat portion at the base - that's the problem with this tool. This is a twisting motion that you do with a screwdriver - obviously. It's not like a knife where the force is pressing down. So in this case, you're applying a twisting force to a flat piece of metal - not good. It's just not going to hold up, and the designers should have known this. Gerber is a really cheap tool company, and I think they are owned by private equity.
Do not ever buy anything from Gerber Gear. Their website has no way to initiate a return - you have to send them an email. I sent them an email regarding this tool, and they asked me why I wanted to return it. I gave my reason, and I have yet to hear back. I may have to file a dispute with the credit card company to get my money back. It's not a lot of money, but this tool is absolute garbage. The whole reason I bought it was for the screwdriver, and that is so poorly made.
But Reviewers Praise this Tool
This is just another confirmation that online product reviews are dishonest and useless. I wanted lots of YouTube reviews for this tool, and I read lots of stuff online. Everybody says it's great - it's all affiliate marketers that are trying to get you to buy it because they get a commission. You can't trust online product reviews - none of them are honest. This tool with break as soon as you actually use it as a tool.
