Planning Tool
Tactical pack capacity calculator
Start with the smallest realistic load, then adjust for insulation, mission-specific equipment, and items that cannot compress. This tool estimates a range; it does not replace a packing test.
Estimated starting range
Suitable for daily essentials, water, compact layers, and limited mission equipment.
How to use the estimate
Gather the exact items that cannot compress, measure their longest dimensions, and pack them with water and clothing before buying. Published liters are not perfectly comparable because brands use different shapes and measurement methods.
| Starting range | Typical role | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| 12–20 L | Daily utility and short movement | Limited room for weather layers |
| 20–35 L | Overnight or equipment-heavy daily use | Careful packing required |
| 35–55 L | Two- to three-day load | Suspension and fit become critical |
| 55–80 L | Bulky cold-weather or sustainment load | High risk of carrying unnecessary weight |
Capacity is not a load rating.
A large bag still needs a frame, harness, belt, and construction suited to the weight. Confirm the maker’s guidance and test the packed load gradually.
